The gaming user base went through a mass growth during the pandemic but issues in connectivity and performance have been a downfall. The rollout of 5G services in India will boost the Indian gaming sector to new heights.

With 420 million active online gamers and about 500 million digital young demographics, innovations in 5G will have a great role to play3. The upcoming phase for the growth of gaming will powered by adoption of 5G, games on cloud and mobile devices. A recent report by Sequoia India and BCG mentioned that India's gaming industry is generating $1.5 billion in revenue and is expected to triple to over $5 billion by 20253.

As known, 5G is expected to forth a revolution in Telecom industry. For the gaming sector, this would mean super-fast downloads, glitch-free multiple players games, live streaming, and real-time gaming. 5G is expected to boost the gaming industry by bringing access to high-end AAA games in the mainstream i.e., high budget, high profile games that are typically produced and distributed by large publishers. It will also offer gamers easy access to better and more unique experiences like AR and VR.

One major reason why gaming has become so popular recently- is the multiplayer & social experience that games are now able to provide. 5G is going to make that even smoother. Additionally, tournament organizers will be able to organize more local events with higher participation and reach a wider viewing audience. This will give brands more sponsorship opportunities. Thus, allowing them to reach out to a bigger audience base but also to experiment with more complex advertising formats which has usually been data dependent.

In all 5G promises very low latency of near 5 milliseconds, while 4G latency ranged from 30 to 100 milliseconds. This will facilitate cloud gaming services to run without any delay. As 5G networks make their debut and operators scramble to expand their network footprints, cloud gaming offers a chance for mobile operators to demonstrate these benefits of 5G to gamers.

Now is the best time for operators to solidify their strategies and develop cloud gaming packages that demonstrate to gamers the many advantages that their 5G networks offer.
